Overview
A Working Chianti Estate
Wikimedia Commons / CC BY-SA
Casa Sola is a traditional Chianti Classico estate in Barberino Val d'Elsa, essentially a neighbour to your Strada di Cortine Airbnb. The estate produces Chianti Classico DOCG, Vin Santo, and olive oil from its vineyards and olive groves on the Chianti hills. It's the kind of property that has been making wine here for generations, without the tourist infrastructure of the larger estates.
This is an optional visit — either as an evening wander on Day 6 (arrival night) or as a daytime addition on Day 7 before or after Siena. Given the close proximity to your accommodation, even a 45-minute walk through the vineyard is worthwhile.
What to Expect
Wine Tasting & The Vineyard
Chianti Classico DOCG
The estate produces wine under the Chianti Classico DOCG appellation — the historic heartland zone between Florence and Siena, producing wine from Sangiovese grapes since the 15th century. The black rooster (Gallo Nero) seal on the bottle indicates DOCG Chianti Classico. Look for the Riserva — aged at least 24 months including at least 3 in oak, it's the best expression of what Chianti Classico can be.
Vin Santo
The traditional Tuscan dessert wine — made from dried Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes pressed and aged in small sealed barrels (caratelli) for 3–10 years. Served with cantucci (hard almond biscuits) for dipping. The best Vin Santo smells like orange peel, dried apricot, and oxidized honey.
